Why should I learn to write and edit if Artificial Intelligence can do it all for me?

Great question. You know what AI can not do?

AI can not speak for you at a networking event.
AI can not explain your personal position in a live debate.
AI can not answer questions for you real time in class or in a meeting at work.
AI can not respond on the spot, combining your personal experience and learning.

Becoming a better reader makes you a better writer. Becoming a better writer helps you become a better editor because you become a better thinker. Becoming a better thinker makes you a more powerful speaker.

Clarity and depth of thought are a direct result of strong listening, reading, and writing skills—in short, the ability to express your own mind, your own self. Artificial Intelligence can not be YOU for you.

Why should I take the time to read when a machine can read to me?

Good question. Listening is an essential skill, and it is one we teach.

But listening to words is not the same as reading them, according to University of Virginia psychologist and leading researcher in reading comprehension, Daniel Willingham. Reading offers a different type of engagement.

Print is a visual medium. Whether it is the pages of book or a screen, words are visible as you hear them in your mind.

And reading is an excellent model for your own writing. Writers read. By learning how other human minds think in the visible word, we can learn to develop those skills in our self.
